19:25:00 | You probably know that CroggesServer is using since years modern hardware to ensure a stable/lag free gaming environment which is since a few months also in use by Shadowburn. We have currently barely any load on the roots, but the current hardware has been years under heavy usage and the OS needs to be updated soon. So we thought it wouldn't hurt to get something "fresh", especially with the incoming update which will hopefully increase the size of the community again so the hardware won't be bored anymore.
The technical specifications are the following:
IntelŪ Xeon Processor E3-1245 (8x 3,7 GHz)
16GB ECC High Performance RAM
2x 3TB Enterprise Server HDDs
3ware Hardware Raid Controller (Set to Raid 1 ofc)
Intel Gbit Ethernet card
Here a small benchmark example to show how fast the machine is, the results are especially for the DB server interesting:
Timing cached reads:
27672 MB in 2.00 seconds = 13852.30 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads:
576 MB in 3.00 seconds = 191.94 MB/sec
The advantages of the hardware upgrade are the following:
- Lower costs to ensure also with less donations a long server lifetime
- A big performance increase so the server is able to hold more players at once
- Easier maintenance
- Higher security due to the OS update and related file / user permission changes
- Update can be installed in less time because the HW is able to compile the software faster
Please expect a small downtime of 2-6 hours tomorrow because we can't transfer the whole database while the server is running. Use the IP of the new server if you have any connection problems afterwards (IP will be announced on forums later).
UPDATE #1:
The server has been successfully ported to the new hardware, other services (e.g account manager) will be online later.
The old realmlist will work till tomorrow evening, the new realmlist is the following:
set realmlist logon.croggesserver.com
(Use "set realmlist 176.9.79.169" instead if you have problems with the realmlist above)

16:10:00 | We are finalising the major issues of the new core and one of the latest tests is the stability.
You can check the latest fixes from here.
To connect to test realm change your realm list to:
"set realmlist logon.croggesserver.com:1337".
So we will make a new fresh characters conversion and replace the default realm by the Oregon one Temporarily in the 7th and 8th of October.
We expect that you will help us by coming online to test the remaining issues and report it to Mantis
Thanks for any one helped us with testing or reporting, i will not mention names to don't forget anyone.
Thread update:
We need all the active players online, to be able to make 2 raids at least in the same time.
Also we will start to test raids one after one till we finish.
We hope that we can make that on 2 days
SWP , BT , SSC , HYJAL , TK , Gruul , ZA , KARA <<< This will be the instances which we hope to test them all.
Also we will test PvP Arena battles, Battle grounds, Duels, and the maps pvp areas like Halaa.
We need every single min in this 2 days. Newly created accounts won't be available until we start the default realm again!

21:25:00 | The testrealm after months of work is finally done. We need your help now to finish the tests as soon as possible. We have installed a bug tracker (Mantis) to increase the efficiency of bug reports, for example important issues can be marked with a high priority so the team members will check them immediately.

We have created also a simple tool for Windows to change the realmlist easily, just extract the "RealmChange.cmd" into your WoW directory and create a shortcut on your desktop.

The testrealm is using a converted backup from the 27.07.2011 (accounts / characters) with a few modifications to make the testing easier:
- All accounts are Platinum Premium so you can easily port yourself anywhere and enjoy the full Premium functions while you are using the testrealm (e.g Premiumisland)
- All accounts received 40.000 coins and 200 vote points on the testrealm
- All characters received 10.000 gold on the testrealm
- Gear vendors are available on Premium island

Here is a small tutorial how you can report a bug if you never used a bug tracker before:
- Go to the following page and create an account -> http://mantis.croggesserver.com/signup_page.php
- Wait a moment and confirm the email which has been sent to your email account, you can set your password afterwards
- Login with your account and click on "My Account" to edit your personal settings, you can change for example the language there (All common languages are support)
- Before posting anything make sure that this issue hasn't been reported before. Click on the "Report Issue" button to report a bug, describe it so detailed as possible and use no rude expressions (e.g "bugged shit"). You can also attach for example a screenshot in the "Upload File" section.
- Read your bug report twice and click on the "Submit Report" button.

Latest informations about the Oregon Server:
We are working since 2 months on the "Oregon update" and were able to sort out most of the major issues. It didn't took years again to achieve this target because we are using now a full open-source project instead and received a lot of help from a person called "Letic". He is one of the Shadowburn devs and takes a lot of his time to support CroggesServer.
What is left to do?
The converter which is changing the current database style to the Oregon one has still a few minor issues left. For example reputations are being set to the maximum value once a player is logging in, the reason for this problem is currently unknown. The stability of the testrealm improved a lot in the last weeks, issues like the "logout crash" which was causing sometimes a crash when a player logged out are finally solved.
How much time do you need?
I would have said "soon" in the past but I think that the remaining part of the community deserves a better answer. It will take around 3-6 weeks till we can open a public testrealm with the defaultrealm characters. It would be quite pointless to open it in less time because a lot of characters are without the "start spells". That means that you cannot talk at all and that important spells like the "attack" one are missing. It will take several days to create a script which will add this "start spells (and skills)" via the database on each character.
What will happen here in the meantime?
We will make more events and introduce new server features like the "Happy Weekend". "Happy Weekend" means that we will increase the XP and honor rates by 50% (to 1.5x) each weekend. We hope that more players will be online at the same time and that we may get additionally more new players who will use the time to level up their characters.
Suggestions from the community are of course welcome!
Update #2 - 21.06.2011:
Less then a week has passed and we got already new informations about the Oregon Server. The following major issues got fixed:
- The problem that a lot of converted characters had missing "start spells" got fixed by a script. The script is adding automatically the missing spells but won't remove already existing ones (Script created by Milambar).
- A lot of characters couldn't talk anymore because the language skills were missing, this issue has been solved (By adding the related skills) and won't cause trouble anymore.
- Most trinket features were "ignored" by the server, invalid permission levels were causing this problem and got corrected now to valid values.
- Map exploring should work in a Blizzlike way now, the current progress of "explored maps" may get removed though (Not confirmed yet).
- The basic Oregon revision has been set to an older one to increase the stability, all important fixes have been backported so you won't notice any difference (Except the higher stability).
The public testrealm will be opened in 2-5 weeks (as planned), we may invite some players to the private testrealm before we open the public one. Tefa will post in the next days how you can get on the private testrealm.
We noticed that a lot of players are curious how we will increase the population again. Fact is that we have already a basic plan which should give the server a decent population boost once Oregon has been installed, it has the following points:
- Write a newsletter via email to all existing accounts (Over 150.000 valid addresses!)
- Write a more detailed (public) changelog so new players can see the progress of the server
- Work on a new website so new players have a better overview and post way more "news" (The current website has a bad news system)
- Increase the rank on voting websites by giving out more vote points / more interesting voting rewards
- Add a referral system to the server so players get rewarded by getting new members into the community
- Create more threads in gaming forums to get more clicks and better search engine ranks (We got most players this way when we started the server)
In other hand, since we expect (and hope) our current community increases once Oregon is installed, we are also looking for new trustable team members to join our team. That way we will be able to provide a better service for the community.

Update #3 - 23.07.2011:
It took us nearly 4 weeks to fix the remaining (important) issues on the Oregon update and we are slowly coming to an end. Here is a small list of changes:
- Big parts of the "Charming system" have been rewritten, that way spells like "Mind control" are working fine now. The "Charming system" related spells were totally bugged on Oregon and could be even abused in PvP to "bug" the targets.
- The world database received a decent update, a lot of quests got fixed that way. We made afterwards a cleanup to increase the performance of the world DB.
- Most unique parts of "CroggesServer" have been ported. For example:"The full Premium / Vote system, 8 level command system, Channel system modifications, GM Commands, Char backup system (As you know chars get achieved here), Instant mount block in BGs/Arena...".
- Most of the unique parts in the world DB of CroggesServer got ported to the Oregon update. That way all unique objects, items, creatures and spawns will be still available afterwards (That includes also stuff like guild houses and the related core systems). A lot of entries / functions got modified to be more Blizzlike again, we did that on request of the community.
The public testrealm should be opened as planned in 1 week~, further details will be discussed in the team meeting tomorrow. We may use this time a "bug tracker" instead of the forums to sort out appearing issues faster. The release date of the update itself cannot be published yet, it depends on the feedback of the community.
